• Also known as the mahogany flat, chinch, and redcoat
• Small brownish flattened 1/4-inch-long and 1/8-inch-wide insects
• After feeding, the body becomes much less flat
• A parasitic insect that will feed on rats, mice, cats, dogs, poultry, canaries, and more, but prefers human blood
• Transferred via suitcases, bedding, and mattresses
• Found in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards, electrical wall sockets, lamps, alarm clocks, clothes racks, wall coverings, carpet edges, curtains, shoes, doorframes, laundry bags, couches, chairs, and more
• All but extinct in the US until a few years ago, it has become a major problem in cities such as New York, Miami, Dallas, and San Francisco
• Numerous cases have been documented in northwestern, LA and the surrounding area
• Females can lay up to 200 eggs after feeding with eggs hatching in 6-17 days
• Adults can survive several months without feeding, but if food (people) are around, they'll eat every night

Pharaoh Ants

• Extremely small cream-colored ants that can have numerous colonies in a structure

Fire Ants

• Tough to control
• Small to medium-sized ant
• Normally red to reddish-brown

• Can cause air conditioner compressor malfunction due to mound building in the summer

Carpenter Ant

• A large black or dark-colored ant
• Normally nocturnal
• Normally nests outside in tree trunks, wooden fence posts, and landscaping timbers
• Sometimes found indoors when they establish "satellite" colonies indoors around windowsills, wood trim, attics, and wall voids
• Climb telephone lines, power lines, and tree branches to enter a structure

Argentinean Ant

• Medium-sized dark brown to black ant that can have numerous colonies in a structure
• In extreme cases, they can form "super colonies" that can infest whole neighborhoods
• Found indoors around sinks, pet dishes, garbage cans, microwaves, and plants

Bees and Wasps

• Occasional invaders of homes, especially homes near lakes
• Most are beneficial to man and serve as natural pest control due to the fact they predate (hunt) other insects

Unfortunately, 2 of the most dangerous spiders in the US are found in the area and are easy to spot.  

Brown Recluse Spider

• 1-inch diameter or slightly larger brown to light yellow with the distinct shape of a violin on its cephalothorax
• Commonly referred to as the fiddle or violin spider
• Can be found indoors, especially in cluttered closets and buildings
• Bite is very painful, like a bee sting, and very dangerous
• Eight to twelve hours later pain is intense and tissue rotting at site of bite will start
• If bitten, see a doctor IMMEDIATELY!

Black Widow Spider

• Abdomen is 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter
• Black abdomen with 2 red or yellow triangles that form an hourglass mark under the abdomen
• Found under stones, boards, along foundation walls, behind shrubs, and under siding, usually not found inside
• Bite is extremely dangerous
• The venom produced by this spider is a potent neurotoxin (affects the nervous system)
• Initially feels like needle prick but subsides quickly
• Fifteen minutes to several hours later, local cramps are experienced which spread and get very intense
• Shaking, labored breathing and speech, stupor, and finally if left untreated
• Death will result if left untreated

The severity and rate of progression are determined by several factors

• Body part bitten
• Your size
• Sensitivity to venom
• Amount of venom injected
• Temperature and seasonal changes
• If bitten, see a doctor!
  

Flea and Tick Removal

Ace Services of NWLA LLC provides interior and exterior flea and tick treatments. Fleas and ticks are classified as "ectoparasites," meaning they feed on the external surface of a host.

Both are pests of humans and their domestic pets/animals all over the world. To breed and survive they need a blood meal obtained from their host. Both are prolific breeders and lay several hundred (fleas) to several thousand (ticks) eggs throughout their lifetimes.

They cause problems not only because of their bites which can cause discomfort, but because of their ability to carry and transmit diseases such as Lyme Disease, Bubonic Plague, and Murine Typhus.

Commonly found on the host, the host's bedding, and the host's resting sites. It is almost impossible to tell a bed bug bite from a flea/tick bite.

There are several of these pests commonly found in Bossier City, LA.

Cat Flea

• Brownish black to brown, about 1/8-inch long, laterally flattened
• Lifespan from egg to adult is around 1 to 2 years depending on food availability
• Can jump approximately 6 inches vertically
• Most common flea
• Found on humans and pets 

Dog Flea

• Similar in appearance and abilities to the Cat Flea, but normally found on wild animals like raccoons, skunks, and possums

Brown Dog Tick

• Reddish-brown about 1/8-inch long
• Flattened dorsoventrally (top to bottom) except after feeding then more round
• Commonly found indoors, but rarely feeds on humans
• Lifespan is approximately 2 years
• Prefers dogs and cats

Deer Tick

• Orange-brown except for legs, mouthparts and dorsal shield is dark reddish-brown
• About 1/8" long
• Body flattened dorsoventrally except after feeding
• Lifespan approximately 2 years
• Preferred host is the white-tailed deer, but commonly found in many wild mammals
• Transmits Lyme disease
  

Termites
