Squirrel Trapping, Capture, and Removal

Ace Services of NWLA LLC knows that squirrels are cute to look at running in the yard and through the trees but are not so cute chewing on your house and running in your attic.

They really get to be a nuisance when they chew on wires in your attic and wake you up at 5 in the morning. Especially active in the morning and the evening, most feed on "mast" such as nuts, acorns, walnuts, beechnuts, hickory nuts, maple buds, bark, apples, tulip tree blossoms, fungi, and the occasional insect.

When squirrels find nuts they store them at another spot, burying them in shallow soil for retrieval when food is scarce during the winter months. Activity spikes in the fall, when squirrels are storing food for winter, during mid-winter when mating chases happen, in spring when the early litters are born, and in late summer when the second litters are born.

The barking, running, and chirping of squirrels in an attic can be very loud. Here are the common squirrel species found in our area.

Eastern Gray Squirrel

  • Gray above with paler buff underneath
  • Approximately 17 to 19-inches long and 14 to 25 ounces
  • Bushy tail

Eastern Fox Squirrel

  • Similar to Eastern Gray but slightly larger
  • Orange or yellow-tipped tail hair

Southern Flying Squirrel

  • Very small squirrel
  • Grayish brown above, white below
  • Loose fold of skin between foreleg and hindleg
  • Flattened tail
  • Large black eyes
  • Nocturnal
  • Does not actually fly, but can glide quite well for 80 meters

Our squirrel nuisance wildlife control technicians are experts in non-lethal exclusion and capture methods to rid your home of squirrels. After we get them out, we'll also fix the problem area where were entering at no additional charge. Raccoon Trapping and Removal

Called the "masked bandit", this intelligent, highly curious animal is an agile climber who can open doors, refrigerator doors, and use your doggie door to access your home. A raccoon can climb into your fireplace from the chimney stack. It is an extremely strong and ferocious animal that will attack if provoked. More about the raccoon:

  • Normally nocturnal
  • Approximately 2 to 2 1/2-feet-long, 12 to 17 inches tall, with a bushy ringed tail
  • Fur mostly gray with a black mask around the eyes
  • Weighs between 12 and 48 pounds
  • Mates January through March with a litter of 1 to 8 born April through May
  • Normally walks, but can run, swim, and is an excellent climber
  • Omnivorous and will routinely eat dog food and cat food left outside, koi fish from landscape ponds, and will raid garbage cans in search of food
  • Appears to wash its food when near water, but this is its way of making food softer for consumption by making it soggy
  • Commonly infests attics and will tear open fascia boards at rooflines to enter homes at that point
  • Vocalizations include purrs, whimpers, snarls, growls, hisses, screams, and whinnies
  • Has been known to tear up lawn sod in search of grubs
  • A known vector of rabies and will contaminate soil by their droppings with the deadly raccoon roundworm which is often fatal to humans

Beaver Trapping, Capture and Removal

Beaver information:

  • The largest North American rodent, a beaver can weigh between 35 to 50 pounds, with some reaching 70 to 85 pounds
  • A stocky rodent with webbed hind feet
  • Dark-colored fur usually brown with large incisor teeth that can be yellow or orange
  • Has a large dorsoventrally flat tail that is scaled and almost hairless
  • Habitat is anywhere there is a year-round body of water
  • Streams
  • Lakes
  • Farm ponds
  • Swamps
  • Wetland areas
  • Roadside ditches
  • Drainage ditches
  • Canals
  • Mine pits
  • Drains from sewage disposal ponds
  • Can cause problems by their dam building and feeding behavior.
  • Prefer to eat:
  • Aspen
  • Cottonwood
  • Willow
  • Sweetgum
  • Blackgum
  • Black cherry
  • Tulip poplar
  • Pine
  • Almost any woody plants that grow near the water
  • They can and will travel 100 yards out of the water for food, to nearby fields, or other disconnected bodies of water
  • A colony normally consists of 4 to 8 related individuals, but some beavers live alone as hermits
  • Other signs of a beaver, besides a dam, are a beaver lodge constructed of mud and sticks either away from or close to the the shore
  • They also will construct territorial "castor mounds" that signifies to newcomer beavers this territory is already occupied by beaver
  • Besides causing flooding and bank destabilization with their dam construction behavior and chewing down trees, another problem associated with this animal is the contamination of water with "Giardia" germs.

An associated pest, the nutria rat is sometimes confused with the beaver, due to its swimming and coloration, but it has a long "rat-like" tail and does not build dams or lodges. The nutria rat will dig den holes in banks and will chew down small shrubs and grasses near the shoreline.

Bobcats and Fox Trapping, Capture, and Removal

Bobcats and foxes are much more present in our lives than we realize. Due to their secretive and shy nature, they are hard to see even when in large numbers. Mostly hunters of small prey, rabbits, squirrels, mice, shrews, and more, they sometimes will eat carrion (dead animal carcasses).

In extreme cases, they have been known to attack livestock and small pets. There have been reports of certain Shreveport-Bossier neighborhoods experiencing these animals eating cat food left outside by cat owners.

Bobcats

  • Typical feline body structure
  • 2-3 times larger than a domestic cat
  • Tawny colored fur with a short "bob" tail
  • Average weight is 14 to 40 pounds
  • Capable of killing prey from mice to deer
  • Opportunistic predators
  • Breeding season is from January to June with litters containing 2 to 4 kittens
  • Sometimes found in new subdivisions

Foxes

  • Resembles a slenderly built dog
  • Weighs between 7 and 13 pounds
  • Reddish fur with a bushy tail
  • Opportunistic feeder
  • Hunts prey from mice to rabbits
  • Sometimes fawn and poultry are killed
  • Will feed on carrion
  • Solitary canine except for the winter breeding season
  • Normally has 4 to 9 pups
  • Commonly found within city limits

Bats and Birds Capture, Trapping, and Removal

Ace Services of NWLA LLC knows that birds are wonderful creatures of the air that can entertain us with their soaring acrobatics, and they add a natural touch to many city landscapes. But some bird species can also be destructive, aggressive, and territorial.

Their droppings are acidic and can actually eat through metal awnings and overhangs, given enough time. Bird droppings can also harbor spores that can cause life-threatening diseases such as leptospirosis and histoplasmosis when inhaled by humans. Typically, the four birds that cause problems are the pigeon, barn swallow, starling, and crow.

Bats cause more fear and distress than any other animal to people. Their droppings and urine are highly acidic and damaging to paint and siding. We specialize in humane, non-lethal methods. Like birds, bat droppings can also harbor dangerous spores that can be inhaled by people and cause diseases. The one disease that sets them apart from birds is bats can also carry rabies.

We offer exclusion, harassment, trapping, and baiting programs for birds and exclusion and removal programs for bats in homes, schools, industrial, and commercial facilities. Contact us for a FREE phone estimate.
